Project Overview
Virk Construction Management completed a comprehensive toilet refurbishment at a primary school facility in Weston, ACT. The project was strategically scheduled and executed entirely during the school holiday period to minimise disruption to students and staff, with all works completed within the designated timeframe.
Scope of Works
Ceiling Installation: Complete removal of existing ceiling systems and installation of new suspended ceiling framework with acoustic-rated ceiling tiles, improving both aesthetics and acoustic performance within the amenities block.
Wall Tiling: Full-height floor-to-ceiling ceramic wall tiling throughout all toilet areas, utilising large-format 1200mm x 600mm porcelain tiles. Installation included the application of a waterproofing membrane, tile adhesive bedding, and epoxy grouting to AS 3958.1 standards, ensuring durability and ease of maintenance in high-moisture environments.
Floor Finishes: Removal of existing flooring and installation of new slip-resistant floor tiles with appropriate fall to floor waste outlets, compliant with BCA requirements and AS 1428.1 accessibility standards.
Mechanical & Electrical Upgrades:
Installation of high-efficiency electric hand dryer units, providing energy-efficient and hygienic hand drying solutions
LED backlit mirror systems with integrated lighting, reducing energy consumption while improving user experience and visibility
Accessibility Compliance:
Installation of an automated door operator system to the accessible/disabled toilet cubicle, ensuring compliance with AS 1428.1 and Disability Discrimination Act requirements for independent facility access.
Project Outcomes
All works were delivered on schedule during the school break, allowing a seamless facility handover before term commencement. The refurbishment provides improved hygiene standards, enhanced durability, and full accessibility compliance for the school community.
